"It is my hope that I can be a positive influence in the lives of my students as my teachers Hanshi Mike Kincaid and Hanshi Phil Morgan continues to be in mine." - Kyoshi Harness
Sensei Cody Harness 5th Dan
I am a second generation karate student and grew up in the dojo. My martial arts journey began at 4 years old, and by the time I was in middle school I started to take a more serious focus in training. I benefited from having a live-in instructor and have had many lessons outside of the dojo.
Karate is more than just a physical exercise; there is a mental aspect to your training, and we covered that whenever we could. Many times, we would have discussions about the theory of karate while eating after class or driving home.
I set my sights on earning my black belt and reached that goal in 2006. After that my next goal was a 3rd degree and the Sensei title. I achieved both of those in 2009. I continued to train, promoted again a few years later, and then life had changed my trajectory.
I worked, attended college, started a family, and karate slowed down. But through the year I still attended when I could, and in 2024 promoted to 5th degree black belt.
Karate is not just a sport I enjoy or a hobby, but something that has been a part of my entire life. I am privileged to be able to help teach others who have a passion for martial arts and look forward to finding new ways to improve my own style.
